Semiotics

This reading was very different than the other we have done and I would have to say that I prefer the short stories. I found myself re reading pages in order to grasp what the author was trying to say. The topic of signs and symbols and how they are used was interesting because it taught me something that I didn't know alot about and discussed it thoroughly. My only complaint was that all of it was not easily understood.

Semiotic

I found Semiotic to be very interesting, some of the passages were a little bit confusing. Maybe it was me but the first time i read the Semiotic didn't quite get the major meaning. But, when i reread the article it made more sense and i actually found it very interesting.

Tragic Revenge

Hamlet ends tragically, why is that? Why not just the king Claudius died? Shakespears must have his reason. I comprehend the reason is that he wants to show the audience Hamlet's motive to avenge Claudius is complex. Hamlet is not just because his father was posioned by Claudias but more important is that Hamlet is jealous and angered of his mother's remarried to Claudias. In this point, we see Hamlet's heart has already been darkling. Thus, his revenge is justice but also vicious. Therefore, he will also be punished.

Hamlet's Madness

Hamlet's madness is quite peculiar. He attempts to use his madness as a disguise of his real intentions to kill Claudius. It seems however, that when one wears a mask too long, he becomes the mask. When one acts in a play for too long, they become the actors and distance themselves from who they really are. So too Hamlet, in his faking madness I believe he actually succumbs to ailment. After such traumatic experiences, from his father's death & his mother union with his uncle it is no wonder that he becomes mad. In Act III scene i , when Ophelia confronts Hamlet to return her love for him, he utterly denies it & throws it back in her face. However, in the next scene during thee play, he makes sexual advances towards her. His indecisiveness is quite telling of calling his sanity into question.
